Trump said he spoke with Vladimir Putin for 75 minutes about Ukraine and Iran

Donald Trump said he held a 75-minute phone call with Vladimir Putin just days after tensions between both leaders spilled into the open. The call, which Trump shared publicly on X, took place while the war in Ukraine passed its third year, and as Washington’s support for Kyiv continues to split along political lines. According to Trump, the talk covered recent Ukrainian strikes on Russian airfields, a possible Russian response, and Iran’s nuclear delay. “I just finished speaking, by telephone, with President Vladimir Putin, of Russia,” Trump wrote . “The call lasted approximately one hour and 15 minutes.” He said they discussed “the attack on Russia’s docked airplanes, by Ukraine, and also various other attacks that have been taking place by both sides.” Trump added that, “It was a good conversation, but not a conversation that will lead to immediate Peace.” The Kremlin confirmed the call, but did not release additional details. The timing came as Trump, now back in the White House, tries to position himself as the only leader who can deal with Putin and bring an end to the Ukraine conflict. Putin vows response while Trump warns on Iran In the same post, Trump said Putin made it clear he plans to strike back after Ukraine’s air base attacks. “President Putin did say, and very strongly, that he will have to respond to the recent attack on the airfields,” Trump wrote. But Trump didn’t say whether he urged Putin to hold back. He then pivoted to Iran, saying they talked about Tehran’s lack of movement on its nuclear decision. “We also discussed Iran, and the fact that time is running out on Iran’s decision pertaining to nuclear weapons, which must be made quickly!” Trump wrote. He added that he told Putin, “Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon and, on this, I believe that we were in agreement.” According to Trump, Putin offered to step into the Iran situation and help bring things to a faster conclusion. “President Putin suggested that he will participate in the discussions with Iran and that he could, perhaps, be helpful in getting this brought to a rapid conclusion,” Trump said. He accused Iran of delaying its decision on purpose. “It is my opinion that Iran has been slowwalking their decision on this very important matter, and we will need a definitive answer in a very short period of time!” The conversation didn’t appear to produce any peace proposal. It also wasn’t clear whether Trump asked for restraint or offered alternatives. He made no mention of NATO, Europe, or any other countries playing a role.
